IAS Principles of Good Admissions Practices

1. The school works to make sure that a prospective student or family, and the mission and philosophy of the school are a good fit.

2. The school upholds an admissions procedure that promotes the worth and dignity of every person while also respecting the needs of prospective students and their families to evaluate the school's activities and programs.

3. The school makes inclusion a key aspect of its policies, methods, and goals for student recruiting and enrollment.

4. The school respects the privacy of applicants and their families and follows a set of transparent, standardized procedures for acquiring, sharing, and preserving information about potential students. Before granting admission to a student, schools check to see if the application procedure has produced enough formal documentation of an adequate match.

5. The school makes sure that all deadlines and expectations are clear, and all school communications on the admissions process are standardized, open, inclusive and user-friendly.

6. Before requiring a commitment to enroll, the school gives families detailed information about the overall cost of attendance and other financial requirements, as well as the school’s rules and practices of the school, its member associations, and/or its athletic leagues that might influence a family's enrollment decision.

7. The school acknowledges the right of currently enrolled students and families to consider other ducational options, and in the event that a transfer is requested, the current school promptly provides the necessary documentation and support, including a reminder to the family of any policies pertaining to contractual obligations to the current school.

8. School admission professionals uphold the highest standards of interschool cooperation and respect as they negotiate the opportunities and difficulties inherent to a competitive recruitment climate.
